What to Consider When Shopping for an RV
Before you head out to the dealership and make your purchase, you should consider a few things when shopping for an RV.
Type of RV
RVs can be of different types, and you need to choose one based on your needs. There are towable units, like a travel trailer or fifth wheel, or motorized RVs, like a Class A or C motorhome or a Class B camper van.
Towable models are typically more affordable, but motorized ones don’t need an extra vehicle to be driven to your destination.
RV Size
The size of your camper will obviously depend on how many family members you have. Also, a huge trailer does not make sense if you travel a lot and camp in different destinations. Some campsites also have restrictions on camper sizes. So, you must keep these factors in mind when making your purchase.
Amenities and Features
Do you need a fully-equipped kitchen and a separate bathroom? You don’t need many features and amenities if you need the RV just for weekend getaways. Also, if you don’t have a family, you actually don’t need a spacious living area with plenty of seating and storage.
On the other hand, if you plan to use it for camping, consider looking for an RV with outdoor amenities like a barbecue and awning. Remember that more features will cost you more money. So, choose wisely.
Budget
It’s better to set a budget and stick to it. There are plenty of options available at various price points. If your favorite model is out of your reach, you can get a used unit at an affordable price.
Best RV Brands
Investing in the right RV is essential in making the most of the adventure. A camper from a trusted manufacturer will definitely secure your money and ease your worries.
With so many brands to choose from, what are the best RV brands? We have chosen the most reliable RV brands that offer good quality, good after-purchase service, value for money, modern designs, and some other features.
The following are the most suitable options when it comes to the best camper brands in terms of RV manufacturers ratings.
1. Airstream
Airstream is a top brand, and anyone who knows a thing or two about RVs has heard of it. It’s undoubtedly the best RV company for small travel trailers.
The company has been around since 1931, which has given it a long time to come up with great models and innovative designs to capture the love of RV enthusiasts.
Their travel trailers are famous for their bullet-like structure, and Teardrop is probably the most famous of all models.
As one of the oldest RV manufacturers in America, it has continuously improved its products over the years, incorporating state-of-the-art technology with superior functionality.
Airstream will launch its Basecamp trailer for $46,000 in 2023. It’ll be a high-end camper delivering superior quality.
We have owned 5 RVs over the years and this is hands down the best RV we have had. Airstreams are known for quality and it shows. Everything is will designed and well made. The windows are amazing allowing for great views and excellent airflow. Towing is on a completely different level than other trailers OR 5th wheels. Airstreams are low and don’t catch the wind. The suspension is a torsion axel that is far better than the traditional leaf spring you get in most RVs. I recommend a 3/4ton for towing though we did initially pull this with a 1/2 ton and were able to manage well. Having the solar upgrade has been very nice. I rarely if ever even need to plug in. This is especially true after the lithium battery upgrade. We have yet to come close to using up all the batteries when camping. Almost everything is able to be monitored through phone apps from outside the RV. We have used this rig both at RV parks and boondocking and have loved it.

- State-of-the-art technology provides superior engine performance.
- Airstream RVs are made of high-quality materials, and you can trust them to run for a long time. You get what you pay for with this brand.
Their vintage designs with wood cabinetry give off a midcentury vibe.
2. Newmar
Newmar is all about luxury and traveling in style. It’s the best RV brand for the money because the trailers will make you feel at home, not living inside a small home on wheels.
All Newmar campers are highly comfortable, thanks to the wide range of amenities. However, you do have to pay an extravagant sum for this luxurious experience.
The price point of these RVs ranges from $100,000 to $1.5 million. Yes, they design mobile homes that only multi-millionaires can afford, and they do a great job at it. That’s why they’re considered one of the best RV brands.
This is the best coach we have owned, out of 5 we have owned over the past 27 years. We live in it 5 to 6 months a year. It is comfortable, solidly built, and beautiful inside and out. It is a pleasure to drive. It has a Newmar feature called Comfort Steer which greatly reduce fatigue when driving in cross winds. The coach has over 8,500 pounds of carrying capacity.

After the success of some outstanding models such as Grand Design Reflection and the Grand Design Solitude, it has become America’s favorite RV brand and repeatedly earned the title of the best-selling trailer.
The company was bought by Winnebago in 2016 but allowed to keep its strict standards on quality and service to manufacture its recreation vehicles independently.
You can enjoy excellent trips with towable models like travel trailers, fifth-wheels, and toy haulers. This is a better choice for more adventure-loving, free-spirited RV owners as they come in many different sizes but with equally durable construction. Grand Design RV doesn’t manufacture and sell motorized RVs: Class A, B, C RVs.
We truly love the open space, and natural light that this 5th Wheel Solitude layout offers. A few items that needed attention from the manufacturer, but Grand Design was Attentive, and our service work and warranty work was completed quickly. After those items, we have truly loved our Grand Design Solitude, and have camped on extended trips in Cold weather – the research we did, and reason we selected the Grand Design, not only for the quality, but Also for the Higher insulation values in Roof, Walls, and Floor (storage Bays too) were appreciated during the Colder weather! They are a Brand worth owning!!

Oliver takes pride in the durability of its products. Its most popular small travel trailer model is the Oliver Legacy Elite. Built with a double-hulled fiberglass shell, the 18.5-foot trailer comes with a 74″ x 52″ bed, a nice bathroom, and a fully-equipped kitchen.
All Oliver RV units are durable and designed to last a lifetime. And it has become possible due to the ingenious curved structure, similar to the Airstream RVs, instead of the traditional boxy shape.
Starting at $65,000, the luxurious trailers come with personalization options. There are also a lot of upgrades available.
Oliver makes a great quality trailer. Tows like a dream. Lightweight but strong and stable. Easy maintenance inside and out. Quality HVAC, plumbing and kitchen components. Great for boon-docking with solar panels and high ground clearance. Never any issues after 4 years of use and winter storage.

Final Words
There are so many RV brands to choose from that it can be quite confusing. But the ones we picked here have proven to be the best RV brands in the market.
You will find raving reviews of these brands in many forums and websites, and we agree with that sentiment. Hopefully, you can choose a brand that gives you the best experience in your camping life.
Not quite Scott. How about a do over only this time concentrate on build quality, fuel efficiency, dependability, durability, road worthiness and four season comfort instead of similarity to a new condo or styling. In my experience every rv involves some sort of compromise. First time buyers face a lot of uncertainty and are forced to develop new maintenance skills just to “enjoy “ their very expensive purchase. What’s needed is a boot camp that teaches hands on experience in the business of negotiating life on the road.
